What children practise

Letter riddles train the ear for sounds: children spot the first sound in a word, clap syllables and look for rhymes. Older children rearrange anagrams and meet homonyms, synonyms and kinds of words, which helps both reading and writing.

How to play

The youngest pick a letter or a picture, and older children type the answer. If they get stuck, the first hint says where to look and the second almost gives it away.

An idea for home

After a riddle, try to think of one more rhyming word or one more anagram together. That turns each riddle into a word game for the whole family.
